Huawei Nova 2 Plus 20MP Selfie Camera Phone Review
The Huawei Nova 2 Plus is Huawei’s latest mobile device, it is being promoted as the selfie phone due to its 20MP front camera. Huawei has come a long way in enhancing the aesthetics of their devices. The phone looks a lot like the P10, it has a 5.5-inch screen and is smaller in size than the iPhone 7/8 plus.
The device is made to compete with the less expensive phones, selling at around $340 making it an affordable device.
The Huawei Nova 2 Plus is a 5.5-inch phone that comes with pre-installed Android 7.0 Nougat and the Huawei EMUI 5.1 interface. The device’s processor is Huawei’s own Kirin 659. The phone comes with 4GB RAM and 64/128GB memory expandable to an additional 128GB via microSD external card.
The Nova 2 Plus has a fingerprint sensor on the back of the device and not on the front screen. You will need to get used to this feature, especially if you are an iPhone user, the downside is that you have to pick up the device each time you want to activate it or put in your lock screen code, the good thing is that it is extremely responsive and the button can be used to perform custom functions as well.
You can run a full day on the Nova 2 Plus without needing to charge your phone. The phone has a fast charge capability but it is not a supercharge like in the case of the P10 and Mate 9 Pro (reviewed here)
Most Huawei devices have dual SIM capability. This feature is setting Huawei apart from many competitors, a lot of people nowadays are using 2 numbers, work and personal. This feature saves them from purchasing two different devices. A really cool feature is the app twins feature which enables you to have 2 separate WhatsApp and Facebook accounts on the same device using the original apps.
My appreciation for Huawei started when I tested the Dual Lens Leica camera on their older devices. The rear camera has a 12MP / f1.8 wide-angle lens and an 8MP / f2.4 telephoto lens. The front camera is what sets this device from others, it captures images at 20MP. For a front camera, this is pretty impressive given that most people end up using to selfie camera to take pictures of themselves.
One noticeable element is the moving pictures feature, it is similar to the Live Photos in iPhone where a video is recorded along with the photo to capture the moment that leads to this photo.
Huawei Artificial Intelligence (A.I.)
It is worth mentioning that Huawei is putting a lot of effort into Artificial Intelligence bridging user experience and machine learning into a smart mobile intelligence. Although the Nova 2 plus comes with the Kirin 659 processor, expect future devices like the Mate 10 to start packing the Kirin 970 powerful processor. Huawei’s advanced A.I. mobile chip sensors generate personalized, real-time, scenario-specific data. Such capacities form a more cognitive device of user needs, making the experience more personalized and accessible through understanding as well as assisting people.
All in all
It’s a beautiful device to hold, it performs well, has a good battery life, affordable, and most importantly have a solid front and back camera.
