Instagram Influencers To Disclose When Getting Paid By Brands

Instagram users will start seeing a new message labeled “Paid partnership with” on influencers’ posts and stories whenever a commercial relationship exists between creators such as influencers or publishers and businesses.

In an attempt to bring more clarity and transparency to the community, Instagram is asking Influencers to state publicly whenever a post is part of a paid agreement with a brand.

Instagram Influencers Techie DadToday Instagram users don’t know the difference between sponsored content and regular content. Most celebrities and influencers are endorsing brands directly and indirectly on a daily basis.

In the US alone influencer marketing is a $1B industry, and more than 90% of celebrities violate FTC regulations. Influencers and brands are to clearly disclose their relationship.

The new tool will allow a creator to tag the business they have a relationship with. The post or story will appear with a sub-header that reads “Paid partnership with,” followed by a tag to the business partner’s account. This makes the nature of the relationship more transparent for the community.

When the tool is used, both the creator and business partner will have access to Insights for that post, making it easier to share how followers are engaging with these posts.
