Tech Tips and Gadgets: If You’re Running in The Beirut Marathon
Whether you’re an amateur runner, a parent with kids, or even a semi-pro. Here’s a list of tips and gadgets, to help you get the most out of your tech devices during the Marathon.
Pro runners participating in the longer distance runs, are advised not to carry several items, and stick to the fitness trackers to avoid being tired by the extra weight and distracted during the long run.
Charge Your Smartphone:
Make sure your battery is fully charged the night before, you don’t want to run out of power while trying to locate someone or taking pictures of your kids and friends. Also, don’t forget to free some space on your device for new pics.
Carry a Battery Juice Pack:
If you think that your battery won’t make it through the day, then consider an external juice pack. You have the option of a cover battery case, small external power bar or larger powerstation in case you need to charge several times or many devices. Mophie has a wide variety of good quality items.
Health and Fitness Trackers:
Make sure your Apple Watch, Gear S2/S3, Fitbit, Garmin, Jawbone are fully charged. Remember to start a new running outdoor workout session for a more accurate tracking. Make sure that your age, sex, height and weight are registered properly on the device to avoid wrong calculations.
If you don’t have a wearable device, don’t worry, your phone does the tracking automatically, just make sure you are carrying it on your person all the time. Don’t forget to start a workout session before you run too.
Offline Maps:
Download the Beirut offline map on your device from Google Maps or from your preferred fitness app such as Runtastic. This will help you save on battery and data usage during the day.
Beirut Marathon Official Mobile Apps:
Download the official BMA maps for Android and for iPhone in order to follow up on the related news, results, race information and track a specific runner.
iPod / Music Player:
It is preferable not to use your phone as a music player on a day like this, to avoid draining your battery. Carry a smaller/lighter device such as the iPod Nano or iPod Shuffle. Remember to fill your playlist with workout and motivational music.
Sports Headphones:
If you are one of those people who can’t tolerate the classic earphone because they keep falling off every time you move, then use a sports headphones with an earhook. Philips has a good affordable one.
GoPro Cam:
If you want to document the whole journey, it is better if you mount your GoPro using Head, Chest or Arm Strap. Avoid carrying a selfie stick as it is not practical nor safe to run with a stick. Don’t forget to charge your cam and pack an extra battery.
